Derby County’s Luke Thomas is reportedly set to leave the Championship club and join Premier League West Ham United this summer.

And, a few weeks later, it seems that the Hammers are now about to win the race.

Thomas has been earning rave reviews at Pride Park since arriving from Cheltenham Town back in 2016 and has scored six goals for the U23s in the Premier League 2 Division One this season, including a strike in a 5-1 thrashing of West Ham’s youngsters at the London Stadium.
The teenage midfielder was even handed his senior debut by Derby manager Gary Rowett back in November and has made two first-team appearances in total.

But it now seems unlikely that Thomas will follow the likes of Will Hughes and establish himself in the Rams squad. Because a move to West Ham is looking increasingly likely and his signing should be seen as a coup for the Londoners given that a number of other top flight teams were interested.
Thomas is not the big-money, marquee signing West Ham fans want to take the club to the next level but he should give them something to look forward to in the future.
