West Ham United need one more centre-back and the Premier League outfit are reportedly landing Portugal youth star Goncalo Cardoso.

West Ham United are set to complete the £2.8 million signing of young Boavista defender Goncalo Cardoso, according to Record.
With the Hammers looking to bring in one new centre-back before Thursday’s transfer deadline, Football London broke the news over the weekend that Manuel Pellegrini’s side had been impressed by an unnamed stopper from the Portuguese top flight.
And now we have a name to go with the profile. 18-year-old Cardoso has only made 15 Primeira Liga appearances since making his debut in October 2018 but West Ham have clearly been convinced of his potential already.
The Portugal U19 international is expected to cost £2.8 million and will look to complete with Angelo Ogbonna, Winston Reid, Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena in Pellegrini’s squad.

Cardoso is also left-footed, meaning he should add some balance to a back line dominated largely by right-footers.
Record claimed in July that Benfica, the reigning Primeira Liga champions, were set to sign the teenager but, for whatever reason, a move to the Estadio da Luz failed to materialise. And this has left the door open for West Ham to swoop.
