West Ham United tried to bring Adama Traore back to the Premier League this summer following Middlesbrough’s relegation to the Championship.
Adama Traore’s two spells in the Premier League with Aston Villa and Middlesbrough are memorable for a few flashes of star quality, the odd example of explosive pace, and very little else. Nonetheless, the one-time Barcelona wonder-kid could be heading back to England’s top flight this month.
The Hammers were very interested in Traore during the summer and the Northern Echo stated in July that his representatives had even held talks with the London club about an £8 million move to the capital.
And, half a season later, the deal could finally come to fruition.
Traore is a raw talent whose jarring inconsistency and erratic end product has so far stood in his way of becoming one of the most fearsome wingers in English football. He has the natural pace and power to trouble any defence and West Ham will be hoping that David Moyes could finally instil some reliability in his game.
The 21-year-old managed no goals and just one assist in 37 Premier League appearances for Villa and Boro; a tally he must improve if he is to justify West Ham’s interest.
And reports that the Hammers are planning to renew a deal for the Spaniard could raise further questions about the fitness of Michail Antonio, who has been out of action for almost a month.
