West Ham United have reportedly joined Wolverhampton Wanderers and Eredivisie champions Ajax in the battle for Edson Alvarez.
Wolverhampton Wanderers are leading the chase to sign Mexican international Edson Alvarez though West Ham United have dramatically joined the bidding by submitting an offer for the Club America star on Friday, according to Record.
It seems only a matter of time before Alvarez becomes the latest young Mexico star to try his hand in Europe, after the likes of PSV forward Hirving Lozano and Real Betis wonder-kid Diego Lainez.
Club America are prepared to sell the versatile 21-year-old, who can play at centre-half or defensive midfield. So far, Eredivisie champions Ajax have made the biggest bid, offering £13.5 million.
Record adds that Wolves are currently leading the chase, however, with Alvarez seemingly keen to reunite with his Mexican international teammate Raul Jimenez at Molineux.
And then there’s West Ham. Unlike Wolves, The Hammers are new to the race with Record claiming that an offer has arrived from the London Stadium ‘in the last few hours’.
A technically gifted and tough-tackling player who shone at least summer’s World Cup, neutralising Mesut Ozil, Thomas Muller and co in the group stage victory against Germany, Alvarez could be a long-term replacement for Mark Noble or perhaps an added option to enhance Manuel Pellegrini’s inconsistent backline.
He’d certainly be an upgrade on the erratic Angelo Ogbonna and the injury-prone Winston Reid.
No one is yet to meet Club America’s preferred price-tag of £15.5 million, however, meaning this transfer saga has a long way to go yet.
