West Ham United reportedly tried and failed to bring La Liga defender Maripan to the Premier League in January but they are not giving up yet.

West Ham United have made a bid of £10 million for Deportivo Alaves centre-back Guillermo Maripan, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini appears to have made his fellow Chilean one of the club’s top transfer targets as they look to build on the former Manchester City manager’s impressive debut season at the London Stadium.

Maripan enjoyed a stand-out campaign with Alaves in La Liga as they comfortably stayed clear of a relegation battle. And, according to La Segunda, West Ham failed with an £8.5 million bid during the January transfer window.

The Londoners have not given up just yet, however, and will hope that an increased offer of £10 million will convince Alaves to part with one of their key players.

Considering that Maripan has a £23 million release clause in his contract, however, West Ham will probably have to raise their bid again if they are to sign the 25-year-old Chile international.

Maripan hardly played down the ongoing speculation when he told Goal this week that he was hoping to secure a move to the Premier League after the Copa America.
