West Ham United have moved ahead in the chase for the Eredivisie goalkeeper.
Though some regular London Stadium matchgoers may disagree, West Ham United had two Premier League quality ‘keepers at their disposal last season.
Darren Randolph produced some fine performances between the sticks for Slaven Bilic’s side while Adrian, though not the most reliable of shot-stoppers, has not made over 100 appearances in England’s top flight for nothing.
However, there is a genuine possibility that West Ham could have two new goalkeepers at their disposal this time round. Joe Hart has already arrived on a season-long loan from Manchester City, forcing Randolph to drop down a division with Middlesbrough.
The Dutchman, who has won two Eredivisie titles in the last three seasons, is understood to have a verbal agreement to leave the club this summer with plenty of interest in his services.
Another new keeper?
Newcastle United and Crystal Palace are interested but the report claims that the only club to make a concrete offer is West Ham – though PSV will demand far more than £2.8 million for a player they value at upwards of £9 million.
Intriguingly, Voetbal International reports that West Ham see Zoet (below) as a back-up to Hart – meaning they will be forced to sell Adrian first despite manager Slaven Bilic recently confirming a desire to see the Spaniard stay and extend a contract that expires next summer.
Though a nine-time Dutch international, Zoet is something of a divisive figure in his homeland with a propensity for big errors hardly helping his reputation.
Zoet all but killed off PSV’s chances of retaining their Eredivisie title last season when he unwittingly scooped the ball over his own goal line when attempting to pick it up in the latter stages of a crucial clash with Feyenoord in February.
That gave Feyenoord a 2-1 win and set them on their way to the title.
