Report: West Brom winger James McClean closing in on Stoke move

James McClean’s time at West Bromwich Albion looks over with Championship rivals Stoke City reportedly closing in on a swoop.

West Bromwich Albion fans have already bid farewell to Jonny Evans, Gareth McAuley, Claudio Yacob and Boaz Myhill and it seems that another one of their longest serving players is on his way out of the door too.

James McClean has been heavily linked with a move to Stoke City in recent weeks and it is understood that The Potters had a £4 million bid turned down for the Republic of Ireland international.

Now, however, The Mail (live blog, 11.27pm) reports that there has been a breakthrough. Stoke are understood to have improved on their initial £4 million offer and are now closing in on the signing of McClean.

Gary Rowett’s Stoke are keen to reinforce their attack after seeing their ten year stay in the Premier League come to an end last season and McClean will be tasked with providing service to new centre-forward Benik Afobe.

The Mail adds that Stoke are interested in signing another two wingers this summer even after the seemingly impending arrival of McClean.

Junior Hoilett, who earned promotion to the Championship with Cardiff City last season, is under consideration as is the Bournemouth speedster Jordon Ibe (above), who cost The Cherries £15 million from Liverpool in 2016.
