West Bromwich Albion will play Championship football next season but still reportedly hope to sign Stefan Lainer.

Red Bull Salzburg could be about to become a victim of their own success.

They cruised to the Austrian league title last season and stunned the continent by reaching the semi-finals of the Europa League, knocking out Dortmund and Lazio along the way. But manager Marco Rose now faces his biggest challenge yet – keeping this side together.

Striker Munas Dabbur, scorer of 29 goals this season, has been scouted by clubs from bigger leagues while the dynamic young midfielder Amadou Haidara has been tipped to replace Mousa Dembele at Tottenham, as reported by the Sun.

And the Salzburger Nachrichten is now claiming that the buccaneering right-back Stefan Lainer could also be on his way.

A 25-year-old who has played twice for the Austrian national team, SN states that he is a target for West Bromwich Albion, who have been relegated from the Premier League and are preparing for life in the Championship next season.

Lainer played 54 games for Salzburg last season, setting up 11 goals, and his addition would be a coup for West Brom considering their stay in the top flight has now come to an end.

A deal for Lainer would be easier said than done, however, with the full-back making clear that he is not angling for a move away.

If West Brom want a quick return to the top flight, this is exactly the type of move they should be making.
