Could Diogo Queiros join Championship outfit West Bromwich Albion after Filip Krovinovic headed to The Hawthorns from Primeira Liga champions Benfica?

West Bromwich Albion are keen to sign highly-rated Porto defender Diogo Queiros as Slaven Bilic’s side look to raid one of Portugal’s giants again, according to A Bola.

Croatian midfielder Filip Krovinovic has already arrived at The Hawthorns from Benfica on a season-long loan, after playing just 23 minutes of football as the Eagles re-claimed the Primeira Liga title last season.

And reports emerging from Iberia suggest that Queiros could be about to follow in Krovinovic’s footsteps.

The 20-year-old is a key part of Portugal’s infamous ‘Generation ‘99’ – an uber-talented crop of players tipped to dominate the international scene in years to come. He has already won the U17 and U19 European Championships with his country, while captaining Porto to the UEFA Youth League title last season.

With first-team football proving elusive at the Estadio do Dragao, A Bola believes that he could be set for a loan spell at West Brom, where Queiros could be tasked with stepping into the void left by Craig Dawson’s move to Watford.

Queiros, a natural leader with superb reading of the game, has been compared in his homeland to former Chelsea and Real Madrid defender Ricardo Carvalho and that speaks volumes about his massive potential (O Jogo). He also has a release clause worth £22 million in his contract, as reported by the Guardian.

It would certainly be a risk replacing Dawson with the rather unproven Queiros but he is no ordinary youngster.
