West Bromwich Albion are reportedly hoping to lure Carlos Sanchez back to England.
It is fair to say Carlos Sanchez did not exactly set the world alight during his spell at Aston Villa between 2014 and 2016, which ended in their first ever relegation from the Premier League.
Nonetheless, it seems that Sanchez has still been lined up for a shock return to the Midlands. According to Alfredo Pedulla, Aston Villa’s local rivals West Bromwich Albion are keen to sign the veteran midfielder before the transfer window shuts.
West Brom could do with a new defensive midfielder after the departure of Claudio Yacob.
But it would certainly raise eyebrows if they were to sign a player who flopped so badly just a few miles down the road.
It is reported that West Ham United are currently leading the chase for the experienced Sanchez, who has 88 caps for Colombia and has featured in the last two World Cups.
Alfredo Pedulla reports that they are ready to overtake West Brom in the race while Football London has claimed that he could arrive at the London Stadium on loan.
Sanchez is currently contracted to Serie A side Fiorentina but does not appear to be in the plans of manager Stefano Pioli, having spent the second half of last season on loan at Espanyol in Spain.
