Ali Gabr moved to England with West Bromwich Albion but has not played a single game for the now Championship side.
West Bromwich Albion have three weeks to decide whether they want to give Ali Gabr a second chance at The Hawthorns.
The 29-year-old centre-back (below, left) moved to West Brom on loan from Zamalek in the January transfer window for a fee just shy of £500,000, but he did not make a single first-team appearance for the Baggies as they eventually finished bottom of the Premier League.
As a result, the club are now uncertain whether or not to sign Gabr permanently due to his lack of impact over the last few months. It is understood that there is a clause in the towering defender’s contract, allowing the Baggies to seal a deal for £1.1 million before the end of June.
West Brom want to see how Gabr fares against top quality opposition. Although the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Dries Mertens should give him more problems than he would face in the Championship next season.
If Gabr holds his own, the £1.1 million deal could suddenly look all the more tempting; especially as Gabr is expected to start alongside fellow Baggies centre-back Ahmed Hegazi at the World Cup in Russia.
