Report: West Brom step up pursuit of Arsenal right-back Mathieu Debuchy

West Bromwich Albion have been linked with Arsenal outcast Mathieu Debuchy for some time and are now expected to bring him to The Hawthorns.

Jonny Evans is expected to swap West Bromwich Albion for Arsenal before the end of the transfer window, although only if the Baggies reduce their £20 million asking price for a player who will be available for £17 million less if Alan Pardew’s side succumb to relegation, as reported by the Mirror.

Although regardless of whether Evans rocks up at the Emirates Stadium before Wednesday’s transfer deadline, it is expected that Mathieu Debuchy could be heading the other way.

L’Equipe state that the out-of-favour right back is desperate to leave Arsenal to boost his admittedly slim hopes of going to the World Cup with France, and it is understood that the Baggies are now set to step up their pursuit of the former Newcastle United man.

The Baggies could offer Debuchy, who cost £12 million in July 2014, a fresh start in the Midlands and the chance of first-team football after three-and-a-half years struggling for opportunities under Arsene Wenger.

Allan Nyom is the only real natural right-back available to West Brom with Craig Dawson forced to fill in on the flank over the last couple of seasons.

So the 32-year-old should be enticed by the prospect of playing regular Premier League football again. Debuchy, who moved to England from Lille back in January 2013, has featured only seven times for Arsenal in all competitions this season, the most recent coming in their 4-2 FA Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest where he gave away a clumsy penalty.
