West Bromwich Albion are closing in on the end of the transfer window but Craig Dawson is still reportedly attracting Premier League interest.
West Bromwich Albion have made it clear all summer that they would not be accepting reduced deals for their key players despite being relegated from the Premier League in May.
According to the Express and Star, the Baggies are refusing to budge on Craig Dawson’s £20 million price-tag, so it was always unlikely that they would be willing to accept Watford’s low offer for the versatile defender.
Sky Sports (live blog, 1.24pm) are claiming that Watford have offered £750,000 up front to take Dawson on loan for the 2018/19 season. They would allegedly be willing to buy him permanently next summer but would only pay £10 million, paid in instalments across the next four years.
Understandably, this has been dismissed by a West Brom side who want double that £10 million fee for one of their prized assets.
Dawson was one of the few players whose reputation remained intact as the Baggies finished bottom of the Premier League in 2017/18. And the BBC reported in July that he handed in a transfer request in order to force a move away from The Hawthorns.
But West Brom deserve credit for sticking to their guns, although there is still a day of transfer activity remaining.
