Craig Dawson looks set to leave Championship outfit West Bromwich Albion but will he move to the Premier League with Watford?

Watford have failed in a bid to sign Craig Dawson with West Bromwich Albion standing firm on the future of one of their key players, according to the Daily Mail.

The Baggies spent most of last summer worrying about Dawson’s future, particularly after the versatile centre-back handed in a transfer request in a failed attempt to force through a move to Burnley.

One year on, however, it seems only a matter of time before West Brom do cash in. They know full well that Dawson has just one year left on his contract and, should an acceptable offer arrive, it would make little sense to force him to stay.

The Mail does not make it clear how much Watford have offered but it obviously fell below West Brom’s price-tag.

The Championship outfit wanted £20 million 12 months ago (the Mail) but they’d be lucky to get more than half that these days with his contract running down.

And though the 29-year-old’s departure looks a necessity, that does not mean West Brom will be happy to let him go. Dawson started 42 Championship games last season and his ability to play at centre-half or right-back would have made him very useful to Slaven Bilic.
