Premier League Burnley are reportedly stepping up their attempts to re-sign Jay Rodriguez from Championship club West Bromwich Albion.
Taking on both the Premier League and the Europa League is a difficult task for any club, not least one with a squad as compact as Burnley’s.
So, with a week remaining in the transfer window, it seems that Sean Dyche is determined to bring in a couple of new faces while he still has the time. And the Telegraph reports that bringing back Jay Rodriguez remains a priority.
Burnley have spent most of the summer being linked with Rodriguez, who started his career with the Clarets before joining Southampton in 2012.
And the Telegraph states that the Lancashire side have now re-opened talks in a last-ditch attempt to bring the one-time England international back to Turf Moor. They have even made a bid of £16 million, which has been rejected by his current club West Brom.
It is reported that Burnley will now consider whether or not to make another approach.
Signing Rodriguez will be easier said than done. West Brom are determined to keep hold of a player they only signed last summer for £12 million.
The versatile forward rediscovered his fitness and his form at The Hawthorns, scoring 11 goals in all competitions. He scored 21 goals in his last Championship campaign, which came for Burnley in 2011/12, and Rodriguez could be crucial to West Brom’s hopes of an immediate return to the Premier League.
