Premier League newcomers Norwich City reportedly want Benfica’s Krovinovic but Championship outfit West Bromwich Albion are leading the chase.
West Bromwich Albion are in pole position to sign Benfica’s title-winning midfielder Filip Krovinovic and, according to the Express and Star, they are now set to make an official bid in an attempt to beat Norwich City to his signature.
The Baggies had one of the Championship’s most experienced squads last season but, as we all know, ‘experience’ can be a byword for ‘old’.
It seems that West Brom are now keen to drag down the average age of players with the likes of Gareth Barry and James Morrison being allowed to bid farewell. And in their place could be a 23-year-old Croatian who won the Primeira Liga title with Benfica in May.
Skilful attacking midfielder Krovinovic might have only played a minor role as The Eagles wrestled the league crown back from Porto but he still did enough to impress fellow Croatian Slaven Bilic, who took over at The Hawthorns in June.
Premier League newcomers Norwich are keen, particularly after seeing their pursuit of David Turnbull come to nothing. But the Express and Star claims that West Brom are set to make a bid to snatch Krovinovic from under their nose.
Signing the Croatian U21 international could be something of a watershed moment for the new Bilic regime, highlighting West Brom’s attempts to move away from elder statesman and towards exciting young talent with the potential to grow at the Hawthorns.
This can only be a good thing with West Brom looking to secure promotion on a budget.
