After signing Semi Ajayi and Kenneth Zohore, West Bromwich Albion will reporteldy sign another Championship ace in Queens Park Rangers defender Furlong.

West Bromwich Albion are closing in on the £1.5 million signing of Darnell Furlong from Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers, as reported by The Mail.

It is no secret that The Baggies need a right-back and fast. Tosin Adarabioyo, Mason Holgate and Craig Dawson all played in the position during the 2018/19 campaign but all three have left the Hawthorns since May’s play-off semi-final defeat to Aston Villa.

But just days after AS claimed that West Brom wanted to sign Ivan Balliu, a former Barcelona youngster who recently left Metz on a free transfer, it seems that the Midlands outfit are prioritising a defender with Championship experience.

Furlong has made 62 appearances in the second tier of English football since rising through the ranks at QPR, including 25 under Steve McClaren last season.

And The Mail claims that new West Brom manager Slaven Bilic believes the 23-year-old can add pace to his backline. Furlong would certainly provide some added dynamism and thrust down the right-hand side compared to the likes of Dawson and Adarabioyo, who were very much square pegs in round holes.

The Mail adds that West Brom saw a bid rejected last week but, after returning with a £1.5 million offer, could agree a deal within the next 24 hours.

After landing Kenneth Zohore from Cardiff and Semi Ajayi from Rotherham, West Brom are putting together a squad full of players proven at Championship level. That should only make Bilic’s task, namely securing a place in the top six at the minimum, far easier.
