West Brom are set to beat Premier League competition to sign Dortmund’s Bundesliga star Andre Schurrle, which is excellent news for Derby County.

West Bromwich Albion fans have waited all month for a big-name attacking signing and now two could come along at once.

The Baggies pulled off a stunning move to sign Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge on loan for the rest of the season on Monday, despite suggestions that the England international was heading instead to Serie A giants Inter Milan.

And they could follow that up by winning the race for Andre Schurrle.

Dortmund will let their £30 million record signing leave this month and, despite suggestions that they would rather sell the German international on a permanent basis, it now appears they are willing to let him leave on loan with time ticking down in the transfer window.

And TEAMtalk state that West Brom are now set to win the race and bring the former Chelsea star back to the Premier League.

ESPN had reported that Newcastle United and Stoke City were keen but the Baggies are now set to get their man, although they will have to cover Schurrle’s £90,000-a-week wages.

And Schurrle’s impending move to The Hawthorns should be excellent news for Derby County. The Sun (live transfer blog) claimed that Rams boss Gary Rowett had made an attempt to sign James McClean on loan but West Brom rejected the offer as they did not want to let anyone go without replacements coming in.

But with Schurrle’s arrival looking more and more likely, TEAMtalk report that West Brom could make room for the former Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen ace by letting McClean go.

West Brom and Derby, then, could be set for a great end to the transfer window.
