Halford could reportedly be back in the Championship with Darren Moore’s West Bromwich Albion.
Not for the first time this season, West Bromwich Albion are running the rule over an experienced, free-agent centre-back.
Martin Crainie and Russell Martin have both spent time training with Darren Moore’s side only to leave when they were not offered a contract. But it seems this has not put West Brom off taking a look at Greg Halford.
The 34-year-old defender has been without a club since he was released by Cardiff City following their promotion to the Premier League in May.
And the Express and Star reports that West Brom have not ruled out offering Halford a contract, with the former Nottingham Forest and Sunderland man having played 45 minutes for the Baggies’ U23s in Saturday’s 2-0 win against Reading.
Halford is a versatile player, capable of filling in at right-back and central midfield, so he would boost a West Brom side whose defence has looked a little shaky all season, drawing 2-2 with local rivals Aston Villa on Friday night.
Darren Moore has already handed contracts to a number of unattached talents in recent months, including Bakary Sako, Tyrone Mears and Wes Hoolahan.
