West Bromwich Albion are reportedly close to signing Swansea City centre-back Kyle Bartley.

On Monday afternoon, the Mail (live blog, 4.15pm) claimed that West Bromwich Albion had held positive talks with Swansea City defender Kyle Bartley and were hoping to beat Leeds United to his signature.

And, less than 24 hours later, it seems that there has been a breakthrough.

The Mirror (live blog, 2.23pm) is reporting that West Brom have agreed a £4 million fee with Swansea and are putting the finishing touches on the signing of the giant centre-back. It is understood that an announcement could be made this week.

Bartley will be a welcome addition to West Brom’s squad, particularly given that Jonny Evans and Gareth McAuley have already left after the Baggies’ relegation from the Premier League.

Ahmed Hegazi, who has an affordable £10 million release clause in his contract, appears unlikely to be at The Hawthorns next season either.

Former Arsenal youngster Bartley is also proven at Championship level. He spent the 2016/17 season on loan at Leeds and forged an excellent partnership with Pontus Jansson, very nearly helping perhaps the league’s biggest underachievers from sealing a play-off place for the first time in a decade.

West Brom seem to have pulled off a brilliant deal then, particularly for just £4 million.
