KAA Gent ace Birger Verstraete is reportedly wanted by Premier League Watford, as well as Bundesliga and Ligue 1 sides.

Watford are leading the chase to sign Birger Verstraete this summer, according to HLN.

A central midfielder who plays in Belgium for Gent, the 25-year-old has scored five goals in all competitions this season to apparently pave the way for a move to one of Europe’s biggest leagues during the upcoming transfer window.

According to HLN, Watford are leading the chase for Verstraete, who is out of contract in 2020 and could therefore be available for a cut-price fee.

The Premier League is understood to be an ‘attractive option’ for a player who has spent his entire career in the Jupiler League, though he also has offers from Germany, France and the Middle East.

It remains to be seen how much The Hornets will need to pay for Verstraete though Transfermarkt suggests that he could be worth around £3.5 million.

The Oostende-born enforcer made his debut for the Belgian national team during a 4-0 thrashing of Scotland at Hampden Park back in September.

Watford are currently eighth in the Premier League table and will take on Manchester City in next month’s FA Cup final.
