Javi Gracia has done a fine job at Watford in the last 15 months and could reportedly replace Maurizio Sarri at Premier League giants Chelsea.
Watford head coach Javi Gracia has been lined up by Chelsea as a possible successor for the much-maligned Maurizio Sarri, according to the Daily Record.
With just a few games left in the Premier League season, it seems increasingly unlikely that Sarri will be in charge at Stamford Bridge by the time the 2019/20 campaign kicks off.
The Italian enjoyed a fine start to life at Chelsea but now finds himself in a battle to secure a top four place with fans making their frustration clear with some increasingly vocal protests from the terraces.
And, according to the Daily Record, Chelsea are looking for possible successors with Sarri allegedly having been offered a return to his homeland with Roma. And Gracia, who has done a fine job at Vicarage Road, is one name under consideration.
The softly-spoken Spaniard took over in January 2018 and was rewarded with a new four-and-a-half year deal as recently as November – which is an achievement in itself given that Watford’s owners, the Pozzo family, are notoriously trigger happy.
Gracia’s Watford are into the FA Cup final and are in the mix to finish as the ‘best of the rest’ in seventh place. And the Record believes Chelsea have been impressed by the former Malaga and Rubin Kazan coach’s commitment to attacking football, as well as his ‘controversy-free’ style.
