Matthew Smith is yet to force his way into Manchester City’s Premier League plans but he won the Eerste Divisie title during a loan spell at FC Twente.

Vincent Kompany could use his connections at Manchester City to bring young midfielder Matthew Smith to Anderlecht this summer, according to DH.
The legendary City skipper raised eyebrows all over European football last week when he was announced as the new coach of sleeping giants Anderlecht, returning to the club where he started his career in the increasingly rare role of ‘player-manager’.
Kompany has a huge task on his hands taking Anderlecht back to the top of Belgian football after a prolonged period of stagnation but the Jupiler League giants will surely benefit from the 33-year-old’s links to the Premier League champions.
According to DH, 19-year-old Smith could be the first Manchester City starlet to join Anderlecht on loan ahead of what promises to be a fruitful and mutually beneficial partnership.

Smith, who has already earned five caps for the Welsh national team, won the Eerste Divisie title with FC Twente during a loan spell at the Dutch club in 2018/19.
And the report claims that he could be tasked with replacing Anderlecht’s influential captain Adrien Trebel, who is expected to join Nantes.
