Premier League giants Spurs reportedly wanted Bakambu in January and could look to bring him over from China a year on.
Cedric Bakambu appeared to have wasted his chance of a big-money move to the Premier League.
According to Sport.fr, Tottenham Hotspur were hoping to sign the Villarreal striker in the January transfer window after a terrific start to the 2017/18 La Liga season, in which he scored 12 goals in 18 games.
But instead of joining arguably Europe’s most competitive league, Bakambu followed Oscar, Hulk and co to China. According to The Mail, Beijing Guoan won the race for the DR Congo international when they triggered his £35 million release clause.
Though could Bakambu be a rare example of a player who has enhanced his reputation in the Far East? According to L’Est Republicain, Bakambu’s prolific form means Tottenham are still keeping an eye on his progress.
Understandably so. Quick, powerful and lethal one-on-one, Bakambu has scored 16 goals in 20 starts since moving to China.
And it would make sense for Tottenham to express an interest again, given the ongoing over-reliance on a slightly out-of-sorts Harry Kane.
Bakambu would certainly give Tottenham something different in attack – though why they didn’t just trigger his release-clause in January remains a mystery.
