Mauricio Pochettino’s treatment of Deli Alli, Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen this season hasn’t gone down well with a number of Tottenham Hotspur players, according to the Mail, as problems begin the mount up behind the scenes.

Tuesday’s humiliating 7-2 defeat at home to Bayern Munich in the Champions League felt like the accumulation of months of uncertainty in North London.

Doubts continue to swirl about the futures of many key players with Eriksen, Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld all failing to extend a contract which is due to expire at the end of the season.

While Alderweireld is still a regular in the side, Vertonghen has found himself on the sidelines at times with Pochettino offering only cryptic responses when asked about his absence. Eriksen, meanwhile, looks a shadow of the player who was arguably the Premier League’s most creative midfielder a few years ago, left out of the starting XI when Bayern came to town.

And, according to The Mail, there is ‘unease’ in the dressing room about how a number of first-team stars have been treated by Pochettino with Alli also going from golden boy to benchwarmer of late.

This comes just a day after ESPN claimed that the Argentine’s decision to introduce a midfield diamond for that humiliating loss against the Bundesliga leaders left a number of players baffled.

Things have rarely been this uncertain in the Pochettino era.
