La Liga champions Barcelona have reportedly agreed to sign De Jong from Ajax but Tottenham Hotspur are not giving up yet.

The summer transfer window should be considered a roaring success for Ajax. Not only did they bring back Daley Blind and sign Dusan Tadic from Southampton, they also managed to keep hold of Hakim Ziyech, David Neres, Donny Van der Beek, Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong.
The latter was perhaps the man most in demand, with Barcelona heavily linked as they searched for Andres Iniesta’s long-term successor. But it seems that De Jong will be spending one more year in Amsterdam before he makes the next step.
And Tottenham, who have raided Ajax on numerous occasions in recent seasons, are expected to be at the front of the queue once again.
The Express reported at the weekend that Spurs will be keeping tabs on the 21-year-old over the coming months as Mauricio Pochettino weighs up a big-money move.
And new claims in Mundo Deportivo state that, although Barcelona have agreed a provisional deal with Ajax, Tottenham are preparing themselves to go all-out and hijack his potential move to the Camp Nou.

Pochettino is understood to be a huge fan of the versatile and technically gifted De Jong, who can play in defence and set up seven goals in 16 Eredivisie starts in 2017/18. Tottenham would even consider making a move in January, although De Jong is keen to spend the whole campaign in Holland.
PSG, Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City are also interested in the Dutch international, who is valued around £40 million.
