Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly kept an eye on Abdoulaye Doucoure, who shone in the Premier League with Watford last season.

Watford might have lost Richarlison to Marco Silva’s Everton but, with just a week to go in the transfer window, they have managed to hold on to Abdoulaye Doucoure so far.

The French midfielder was one of the breakout stars of the 2017/18 season, producing a number of monstrous performances at the heart of the Hornets’ midfield while also finishing as the club’s top-scorer. Doucoure, one of the cleanest strikers of a ball around, scored seven goals to go with his three assists.

But it seems it is Watford’s price-tag, rather than a lack of interest, behind the fact that Doucoure is still at Vicarage Road.

The Watford Observer claims that Javi Gracia’s side have demanded £45 million for the 25-year-old powerhouse, which is reported to have put off a number of suitors. Those include Liverpool and Arsenal, who have reinforced their midfields anyway with the likes of Fabinho, Naby Keta, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi.

But it is too early to rule out a Tottenham side who have not spent a penny this summer.

The Watford Observer claims that Tottenham are the most likely side to make a move for Doucoure before the transfer window slams shut in just a few days.

The former Granada man, who was scouted by Mauricio Pochettino during Watford’s 3-0 battering of Chelsea in the spring, would be a long-term successor for Mousa Dembele.

But the question is whether chairman Daniel Levy would be willing to part with £45 million.
