Last summer, Tottenham Hotspur smashed their transfer record to sign Ajax centre-back Davinson Sanchez for £42 million, according to the Guardian.

12 months on, they will have to do the same again if they want to reunite the Colombian with his former defensive partner.

According to Football London, Spurs are plotting a summer move for the outstanding Matthijs De Ligt with all the signs pointing towards an exit for Toby Alderweireld. But if Tottenham want to bring De Ligt to North London, they will have to part with £50 million.

Despite being just 18, De Ligt is surely one of the few teenagers in world football worthy of such a huge fee.

After all, he was one of the stand-out performers in Ajax’s run to the Europa League final last season and has been an ever present in the Eredivisie this time round, all while becoming the youngest captain in the history of Dutch football.

And just imagine what a player the five-time Holland international could be after honing his trade under Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, who is arguably the best manager in European football when it comes to helping young players realise their potential.

Sanchez has shown great promise in his debut season at Spurs and was superb in the 3-1 win at Chelsea on Sunday. Pairing him with De Ligt could give Tottenham a fearsome defensive partnership for years to come.
