Marco Asensio is a star for Real Madrid and Spain – but just imagine if he was playing Premier League football for Tottenham Hotspur.

With Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi 33 and 31 respectively, we are edging towards an era that will not be totally dominated by these two once-in-a-lifetime talents.
A new generation is rising, led by Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, and Marco Asensio is one of those supremely gifted young footballers who could stake a claim to be the world’s best in the coming years.
At the age of just 22, Asensio has already won the Champions League twice with Real Madrid, scoring in the 4-1 thrashing of Juventus in the 2017 decider. And the pristine play-maker is developing into a key player for his country, too, scoring one and creating four more as Spain battered Croatia 6-0 on Tuesday.
So Tottenham Hotspur fans better brace themselves. Because, according to Marca, they missed the chance to bring arguably the most exciting Spanish talent since Andres Iniesta to North London back in 2014.

It is claimed that Ramon Planes, who was then a scout for Spurs, recommended Asensio to the Premier League side when he was still a budding youngster at Real Mallorca.
Tottenham, however, decided not to act. And, shortly after, Asensio signed a contract with Real Madrid.
The rest, as they say, is history.
