Moroyin Omolabi impressed last season for Tottenham Hotspur’s U18s but the Premier League giants have now decided to let him go.
It seems as if Moroyin Omolabi will never get his chance at Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs have been one of the Premier League’s standout teams when it comes to giving young players a chance in the last couple of years, with Harry Winks, Josh Onomah, Kyle Walker-Peters and talisman Harry Kane rising through the ranks at White Hart Lane.
But 18-year-old Nigerian Omolabi will not get the chance to follow in their footsteps. Because, according to the Football Association’s website, the midfielder had his contract at Spurs cancelled late in February.
Born and raised in Walthamstow, Omolabi joined Spurs’ academy in 2016 and impressed towards the second half of his debut season with the under-18s. He made 15 appearances, mostly in a holding midfield role, but also demonstrated an ability to drop in at centre-half when required.
“Moroyin Omolabi, playing at centre-half, stood out against their front players who were very good,” Tottenham head of development John McDermott told the club’s official website after a 3-2 win against Norwich City in April of last year.
But the youngster will now be hoping that he is offered an opportunity elsewhere, as he aims to begin a career in professional football.
For Spurs, however, there are no shortage of highly-rated talents who could make the grade. Reo Griffths, who scored a hat-trick that day against Norwich, is one of those.
