Besiktas have reportedly been surprised by just how insistent Spurs are towards signing centre-back Dusko Tosic.

Perhaps there’s some truth in one of the most bizarre transfer rumours of recent times. Football Arena’s report last week that Spurs were plotting a January move for Besiktas’ 32-year-old defender Dusko Tosic certainly raised a few eyebrows.
The long-serving Serbian international, who endured forgettable spells with London rivals QPR as well as Portsmouth earlier on in his nomadic career, is hardly the typical Tottenham target, after all.
But another Turkish outlet, Fotomac, have added credence to the story by claiming that Spurs are already preparing to up their initial £7 million offer for Tosic in January.

They report that the Premier League giants are now ready to offer up to £9 million – and Besiktas have been left stunned by Spurs’ desire to sign a player who will be 33 years of age by the time the January transfer window closes.
While Tosic may not be the sort of marquee signing that will have Spurs fans dreaming of Champions League glory, it seems a little unfair to focus on his advancing years and his inability to make an impact in England during spells at Loftus Road and Fratton Park.

Tosic is an experienced and versatile defender whose ability to play either at centre-half or left-back could give Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino extra options with the club aiming to compete on both a domestic and European front this season.
Tosic has also honed a winning mentality with successive Super Lig titles at Besiktas and has proven himself in Europe too. The veteran defender has started all four of the club’s Champions League games in 2017/18 with Besiktas picking up ten points from 12 in a seemingly even group containing Monaco, Porto and RB Leipzig.
