Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly competing with Serie A duo Juventus and AC Milan to sign Barcelona’s La Liga midfielder Andre Gomes.

Tottenham Hotspur fans wanted to see some ambition this summer.

And although Andre Gomes has struggled big time since his £31 million move to Barcelona in 2016, beating AC Milan and Juventus to a Euro 2016 winning Portuguese international would still be a real statement from the North London club.

Spurs have been linked with the former Valencia midfielder since last summer. As reported by the Mail, Mauricio Pochettino was close to bringing Gomes to England, only for the deal to fall through as Barcelona failed to sign a replacement in time.

Portugal's midfielder Andre Gomes stands prior to the international friendly football match between Portugal and Netherlands at Stade de Geneve stadium in Geneva on March 26, 2018.

That should not be an obstacle this summer, however, with Philippe Coutinho having arrived in January to be joined by fellow Brazilian Arthur later in the year.

And Calciomercato appears to have given Spurs another boost by reporting that Gomes has suddenly changed his agent, ending his relationship with the renowned Jorge Mendes.

Andre Gomes of FC Barcelona plays the ball during the La Liga match between Barcelona and Levante at Camp Nou on January 7, 2018 in Barcelona, Spain.

Gomes is now represented by Paul Martin, the agent of English internationals Ross Barkley and John Stones who engineered their moves away from Everton to Chelsea and Manchester City respectively.

And Calciomercato believes this puts Tottenham at the front of the queue, delivering a major blow to Gomes’s long-time admirers in Italy. It is understood that Milan and Juventus both met with Mendes recently to discuss signing the dynamic midfielder.

Last week, the Mirror stated that Spurs had narrowed down their search for Mousa Dembele’s replacement to two players – Gomes and Atalanta’s Bryan Cristante.
