Swansea City are reportedly set to bring USA international Cameron Carter-Vickers back to the Championship from Premier League giants Spurs.
After selling Alfie Mawson, Kyle Bartley and Federico Fernandez, Graham Potter has just two fit centre-backs to choose from ahead of Swansea City’s Tuesday night home clash with Leeds United.
Fortunately, however, The Sun reports that Cameron Carter-Vickers is set to arrive at the Liberty Stadium before the end of this week in a much needed boost to The Swans’ threadbare squad.
The 20-year-old defender was hoping to force his way into Tottenham Hotspur’s first-team plans this season but The Sun understands that Mauricio Pochettino is happy to send him out on loan again with a return to the Championship most likely.
Carter-Vickers spent time at Ipswich Town and Sheffield United in 2017/18, making a combined 34 starts in England’s second tier. The four-time USA international impressed too, particularly at Portman Road, but remains behind Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez and co in Spurs’ pecking order.
Carter-Vickers would be an excellent, and much-needed, addition to Swansea’s backline. If he can replicate the form he showed at Ipswich and Sheffield United, the Tottenham academy graduate should have little trouble forcing his way into the starting XI over in South Wales.
Ipswich wanted to bring Carter-Vickers back to Anglia, the report adds, but Paul Hurst’s side are set to be disappointed with Swansea in pole position.
