Serge Aurier hasn’t exactly shone since Mauricio Pochettino brought him to Tottenham Hotspur so could Napoli’s Elseid Hysaj be his replacement?
Paris Saint-Germain are interested in bringing Serge Aurier back to the Parc des Princes, two years after selling the right-back to Tottenham Hotspur for £23 million, as reported by the Sun.
PSG’s recruitment strategy has come under fire of late and rightly so. When you consider that the champions of France have allowed the likes of Kinsley Coman, Matteo Guendouzi, Giovani Lo Celso and Goncalo Guedes to leave the capital in recent years, questions have to be asked.
Yet while Guendouzi, Lo Celso and co have shone elsewhere, the same cannot really be said of Aurier.
The Ivory Coast international has always been a, let’s say, ‘erratic’ footballer and his performances in Spurs colours have oscillated wildly. And it’s telling that, despite Kieran Trippier’s move to Atletico Madrid, Aurier is still far from guaranteed to be Spurs’ number one right back heading into the new Premier League season.
The Sun claims that Tottenham could be tempted to sell for the ‘right price’ with Mauricio Pochettino open to a sale. A mooted return to PSG, meanwhile, would see Aurier replace the departed Dani Alves.
Tottenham, meanwhile, appear to have a replacement lined up already, according to Sky – and Napoli defender Elseid Hysaj is certainly a far more reliable and durable performer.
The Albanian doesn’t possess the same swashbuckling attacking style but he would provide the kind of solidity Spurs lacked on the right hand side last season.
