Brentford priced Championship rivals Swansea City out of a permanent move for midfielder Ryan Woods but he could still end up at the Liberty Stadium.
Swansea City fans were far from impressed with the club’s activity, or lackof, on transfer deadline day last Thursday, with chairman Hugh Jenkins once again getting it in the neck for an apparent reluctance to invest in the squad.
Ryan Woods looked like the perfect addition to Graham Potter’s squad, particularly with Sam Clucas on his way to Stoke City. The talented midfielder had impressed with Brentford, after all, thanks to his intelligent passing and technical ability in the centre of the park.
Sky Sports reported that Swansea had a £6 million bid rejected and were expected to return with an offer of £7 million. Woods, for what it is worth, was keen to swap Griffin Park for the Liberty Stadium.
And although there is no chance of the former Shrewsbury Town man joining on a permanent deal until January, clubs in the EFL can sign players on loan for the rest of August.
And the BBC is reporting that Swansea now want to sign Woods as one of three new loan additions between now and the end of this month. This comes after they refused to meet Brentford’s valuation of the 24-year-old.
Getting this long awaited deal over the line would at least give Swansea fans something to smile about in the transfer market after a difficult summer.
