Aston Villa want loan signings and Swansea City striker Oli McBurnie has emerged as their first choice.
Despite Financial Fair Play sanctions hanging over their head, it appears that Aston Villa’s owner Tony Xia is in full agreement with manager Steve Bruce that reinforcements are required in January with the club desperate to keep their promotion challenge on track.
But with a lack of funds limiting their spending, short-term deals appear to be the order of the day, Xia telling the Birmingham Mail last week that Villa will delve into the loan market in January.
And it appears that Swansea City’s talented young striker Oli McBurnie has emerged as the top target. The Sun (3rd December, page 65), reported that the Midland giants were preparing a bid for the striker.
And the Daily Record is now reporting that McBurnie is ‘poised’ to move to Villa Park in the New Year with Swansea manager Paul Clement keen to see the 21-year-old handed more regular game time.
McBurnie is one of the most promising young strikers around and boasts a fearsome record at reserve level. The Scottish frontman won the Premier League 2 Player of the Year award last season and has nine goals in just six games across 2017/18.
But despite Swansea’s struggles in front of goal this season, McBurnie has been trusted to play just 83 minutes of senior top flight football so a move to Aston Villa would give him a chance to prove himself on a regular basis.
McBurnie should find opportunities easier to come by with Villa’s star striker Jonathan Kodjia set for a few months on the sidelines after aggravating an ankle injury that kept him out of the start of the season.
