Championship duo Swansea City and Hull City are both reportedly interested in signing Scott McKenna from Scottish Premiership outfit Aberdeen.
Aberdeen are sick of losing their star players on the cheap. They lost both Jonny Hayes and Ryan Jack to Celtic and Rangers respectively for combined fee of just £1 million last summer and are therefore determined to earn top dollar should Scott McKenna follow them out of Pittodrie.
The 21-year-old centre-back is one of the rising stars in Scottish football. After a fantastic breakthrough season with the Dons, McKenna was handed his Scotland debut in March. And his remarkable rise continued as he was handed the captain’s armband by Alex McLeish in only his fourth appearance against Mexico.
As a result, the likes of Swansea and Hull City, who are both interested in bringing McKenna south of the border, have been told that they will have to pay big according to the Daily Record.
It is understood that Derek McInnes’ side are confident they can bag a big fee and have demanded £10 million. This would make him the second most expensive defender in the history of the Scottish Premiership, behind former Celtic man Virgil van Dijk.
The report adds that Hull City have made a bid of £2 million for a player they also wanted in January and Aberdeen’s £10 million asking price could scare them off.
Swansea still have hope of getting their man, however, thanks to the parachute payments that accompany relegation from the Premier League. Manager Graeme Potter will scout McKenna in next week’s Europa League qualifier against Burnley.
