Jimmy Walker followed Jack Ross to League One Sunderland in the summer and he is now leaving for Championship strugglers Ipswich Town.
After successive relegations saw Sunderland drop from the Premier League to League One in the space of 12 months, things are finally looking up for the Black Cats again.
A 2-0 away win at Plymouth Argyle on Saturday, sealed by an Aiden McGeady double, means Sunderland are second in the table and just three points adrift of leaders Portsmouth with a game in hand.
But Sunderland manager Jack Ross now has a rather unwelcome distraction.
It is understood that Jimmy Walker, the goalkeeping coach who followed Ross to the Stadium of Light in the summer, is set to bid farewell to Wearside after just a few months.
As confirmed by Sunderland’s official website, Walker is set to join Paul Lambert’s staff at Ipswich Town. The 45-year-old knows Lambert well, having played under the former Norwich City and Aston Villa boss during the 2008/09 season at Colchester United.
Ipswich have lacked a full-time goalkeeping coach since the long-serving Malcolm Webster retired at the end of last season.
In contrast to Sunderland, Ipswich have endured a dismal start to 2018/19. They are five points adrift at the bottom of the Championship table with Lambert having been parachuted in following the sacking of Paul Hurst.
