Sunderland could really do with the money right now so they will be happy to learn that they could be set for a sizable windfall once Wahbi Khazri seals his permanent move away from Wearside this summer.

According to The Sun (10th May, page 55) the 27-year-old Tunisian is a target for Ligue 1 duo Lyon and Marseille after an impressive spell at Rennes.

And it is understood that his exit could see Sunderland land £6 million – a fee that should help the club bring in a number of new players this summer as they prepare for life in League One following successive relegations.

Marseille, meanwhile, are two points further back in fourth, meaning they would have to make do with Europa League football unless of course they beat Atletico Madrid in the competition’s final later this month.

Khazri, who Sunderland signed from Bordeaux for £9 million back in January 2016 according to The Guardian, has scored nine Ligue 1 goals for Rennes this season.

And, in today’s market, £6 million would be a bargain.
