Peterborough United could lose Borg to League One rivals Sunderland, who are also reportedly looking to raid Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Sunderland handed debuts to two new trialists during their U23 defeat to Aston Villa on Monday night, according to the Sunderland Echo.
It seems that Jack Ross’s side are scouring the market for potential bargain signings with the club recently giving a chance to 21-year-old midfielder Ruben Sammut, a Scotland youth international who has captained Chelsea at youth level.
It is claimed that Sammut has been joined on Wearside by fellow youngsters Andrea Borg and Kevin Berkoe, both of whom featured in the clash with Villa.
Borg, who was born in Dubai but plays for Malta at international level, is a 19-year-old midfielder who started in the centre of midfield alongside Sammut on Monday.
Borg currently plays for Sunderland’s League One rivals Peterborough United but he has made just three domestic appearances so far for The Posh.
Berkoe, meanwhile, is a versatile full-back capable of playing on the right or the left. He is contracted to Wolverhampton Wanderers and has been a regular for their U18 side this season, featuring in ten games in all competitions.
It remains to be seen whether any of the trio will be offered a contract.
