Marc Wilson has been tipped to make his West Brom loan permanent but the Bournemouth defender has also attracted interest from Sunderland.

Marc Wilson may have made just four Premier League starts in the last two seasons but the 29-year-old remains a man in demand.

According to the Express and Star, West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis is keen on signing a player he knows and trusts from a solid spell at former club Stoke City on a permanent basis. Wilson spent the second half of last season on loan at The Hawthorns after failing to make an appearance for Bournemouth following a £2 million move from The Potteries last summer.

However, The Sunderland Echo reports that Sunderland are also interested in a player whose versatility makes him a valuable commodity. Wilson, whose natural position is centre-half, has also been utilised at full-back and central midfield in the past.

And that adaptability could come in handy at a club who desperately need new players in a number of different positions. The report claims that The Black Cats will enter the market for a centre-back with Lamine Kone unlikely to still be at the Stadium of Light by the end of August.

Though Wilson would not be the kind of signing required to get pulses racing ahead of a new season, the Republic of Ireland international could be an astute addition if he keeps himself fit and firing.

The report adds that Sunderland remain keen on Aston Villa defender Tommy Elphick, who has been excluded from their pre-season tour along with fellow Black Cats target Ross McCormack.

However, Elphick is likely to cost a few million more than Wilson, and Sunderland face heavy competition from Birmingham City and Leeds United. Therefore, the latter could be a more realistic addition.
