Report: Sunderland hold talks with Manchester United’s Cameron Borthwick-Jackson

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson could be the latest Manchester United youngster to join Sunderland, with the Premier League giants allegedly willing to loan him.

Sunderland will need a new left-back this summer.

According to the Mirror, the Black Cats are keen to get a number of their highest-earning players off the wage bill and have therefore told Costa Rica international Bryan Oviedo to follow Jack Rodwell out the exit door.

But who will come in to replace the former Everton man? All the signs are pointing to Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.

Reports emerged last week that Sunderland wanted to sign the highly-rated 21-year-old, with Manchester United willing to loan him out once again this summer after he spent the last two seasons at Wolves and Leeds United. And it seems a move to the Stadium of Light is now a step closer.

The Sunderland Echo reports that the Wearsiders are hopeful of a breakthrough in a number of transfer deals over the next few days. And it is understood that they have held talks with Borthwick-Jackson about a potential move to League One.

It is not yet clear whether the player wants to make the move, or whether Manchester United would be willing to let him drop down as far as League One, but the excellent relationship between the two clubs appears to make a deal more likely.

A vast number of players have swapped United for Sunderland in recent years, including John O’Shea, Kieran Richardson, Paddy McNair and Donald Love.
