Richmond Boakye’s bizarre career could take another twist with a move to Sunderland while Fabio Borini, Jermain Defoe and co look set to leave.

The fact that Richmond Boakye is on to his eighth different club at the age of just 24 should set a few alarm bells ringing at Sunderland. After all, The Black Cats’ current failures can be traced back to baffling recruitment over the last few seasons.
The fact that they have only made profits on four of their last 46 signings speaks volumes. Yet, The Chronicle reports that Sunderland sent scouts to watch Boakye in action at his latest club, Red Star Belgrade.
Fortunately, Sunderland appear to have checked in at the right time. Boakye scored Red Star’s goal in their 3-1 defeat in the famously feisty Belgrade derby against Partizan, meaning he has scored seven times in nine games in Serbia.
The fact that the Ghanaian is on loan from Italian second division side Latina, however, merely sums up the bizarre nature of Boakye’s short career to date. He even had a spell at Juventus in 2012/13, albeit without playing a single game.
Although at least Sunderland supporters can take solace in knowing their club is taking a proactive approach to the upcoming transfer market. David Moyes’ side are crying out for attacking reinforcements, having only recently ended a run of seven goalless games which looks to have condemned them to relegation.
Jermain Defoe will reportedly leave for free at the end of the season while Fabio Borini has been linked with a move to Celtic and a possible reunion with Brendan Rodgers, his manager at Liverpool, Swansea and the Chelsea academy.
Gianluca Di Marzio claimed recently that Celtic will target Borini in the summer and the two-goal striker’s agent, Roberto Di Fanti, claimed that his departure is ‘inevitable’.
And making a move for Boakye would surely increase the speed of his exit.
