Wigan Athletic’s Championship striker Will Grigg could move to Sunderland to aid the Black Cats’ League One title challenge.

Sunderland appear to be targeting a striker who has a quite remarkable record in the third tier of English football.
Will Grigg has scored 83 goals in his last four seasons at League One level, including 19 as Wigan Athletic won the division as recently as May. And with Sunderland eyeing an immediate return to the Championship, Sky Sports reports that they have tabled an official bid to bring the Northern Ireland international to Wearside.
And new details have emerged on Wednesday. The Mirror (10 January, page 49) report that Wigan do not want to sell Grigg with Paul Cook’s side in the midst of a relegation battle.
Sunderland, however, believe that the former MK Dons and Walsall talisman is open to a move to the Stadium of Light and are now expected to go all-out to seal his signature before the end of the month.

If the Northern Echo is to be believed, Grigg would arrive on loan until the end of the season, when Sunderland would presumably then make a decision about signing him on a permanent basis should he thrive in the third tier again.
