Dean Smith has made it clear that he’d love to keep Albert Adomah at Aston Villa, telling the Birmingham Mail at the start of December that the winger remains a key part of his plans.

But could Aston Villa’s hopes of keeping hold of a player whose contract is due to expire at the end of the season be affected by their local rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers?

Possibly, if reports from the Northern Echo are to be believed.

It is understood that Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis wants a new winger in January and has even considered the possibility of bringing Adama Traore back to the Riverside on loan, a few months after selling the speed-machine to Wolves for £18 million.

Adama Traore poses during a portrait session as he is unveiled as a new signing for Wolverhampton Wanderers, at Molineux on August 7, 2018 in Wolverhampton, England.

And the Northern Echo reports that if Wolves refuse to let Traore leave, Boro could turn their attentions to Adomah – who is seen as a cheap alternative.

The 30-year-old Ghana international spend three years at Middlesbrough between 2013 and 2016, helping the North East outfit earn promotion to the Premier League.

Now, Traore hasn’t exactly hit the ground running since moving to Wolves but it seems that he is still a key part of Nuno’s plans for now, starting the 2-1 win away at Newcastle United on Sunday.

So Aston Villa should perhaps be braced for offers for a man Smith is keen to keep.
