Ambitious Championship contenders Nottingham Forest made an ‘attractive’ offer to sign Levante new boy Nikola Vukcevic, according to reports
So after weeks of speculation, Nikola Vukcevic will not be a Nottingham Forest player after all.
The Montenegrin midfielder impressed in the Primeira Liga last season with SC Braga and has been linked with a move to the City Ground since late June. But after five years in Portugal, it seems he will be making the short trip to their Iberian neighbours, Spain.
Levate are understood to have all-but completed a move for Vukcevic, which is understood to cost around £7.5 million. The 26-year-old will be a direct replacement for Jefferson Lerma, the Colombia international who joined Bournemouth for £25 million earlier in the week.
Record adds, however, that Nottingham Forest made an attractive offer for a player who collected 10 yellow cards in 30 league starts last season.
But the fact that Levante are playing first division football appeared to give them the edge over Forest, who are now ‘celebrating’ 20 years outside of the Premier League.
It is suggested that Vukcevic did not want to play for a club in the second tier. Though with Forest spending big and cosying up with Jorge Mendes in order to follow in Wolves’ footsteps, it will be interesting to see which division they find themselves in one year from now.
