Nottingham Forest and Leeds United are just two of the Championship teams keen to take Adam Clayton away from Tony Pulis’s Middlesbrough this January.
If Middlesbrough no longer want Adam Clayton, there is hardly a shortage of Championship clubs willing to take the midfielder off their hands.
The 28-year-old has not made a league appearance for Boro since late November and the appointment of Tony Pulis to replace Garry Monk last month has not handed him a reprieve.
Leeds have completed two signings already this month, with Club Brugge left-back Laurens De Bock and Japanese international Yosuke Ideguchi agreeing deals, although the latter will spend the rest of the season on loan at Spanish sister club Cultural Leonesa.
And though Leeds are not short of central midfielders, Clayton could represent an immediate upgrade on the likes of Eunan O’Kane and Kalvin Phillips. The former Manchester City youngster spent two impressive seasons at Leeds between 2010 and 2012 before leaving for Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield.
They could face real competition from Nottingham Forest, however, with former Boro boss Aitor Karanka targeting a reunion with one of his former favourites at the City Ground, the Northern Echo add.
Clayton was an integral part of the Boro side which won promotion to the Premier League under Karanka in 2016.
But the bidding should start at over £1.5 million.
