Bristol City want a new striker but the Championship challengers won’t be signing free agents Wilfried Bony or Gary Hooper.
Bristol City will look at the French and Portuguese markets as they look for a striker to replace the injured Benik Afobe with the Bristol Post claiming that they could utilise their contacts with super-agent Jorge Mendes.
Mendes has had an impact on Championship football before. His close relationship with the owners of Wolverhampton Wanderers saw a number of players from his Gestifute agency make shock moves to Molineux, including Ruben Neves, Diogo Jota, Joao Moutinho and Rui Patricio.
Mendes was also behind the influx of Portuguese talent at Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2018.
And reports suggest that he could soon have a say at Bristol City too with The Robins having cultivated a close relationship with one of football’s most powerful agents in recent times.
Lee Johnson’s side are looking to replace Afobe, the Stoke loanee who could miss the rest of the season after netting three times in his first five games for the Ashton Gate outfit, with potential deals for Wilfried Bony and Gary Hooper coming to nothing.
The report now claims that Bristol City will be looking for free agents from France and Portugal.
The Robins will be hoping that Mendes, like he did at Wolves, gives the club access to players they would never have had a chance of signing before.
