Scottish Premiership champions Celtic have been linked with Hibernian’s John McGinn for a while but West Ham United are allegedly making their move.
John McGinn has just a year left on his contract at Hibernian and fans at Easter Road might not be able to enjoy his dynamic performances in central midfield for much longer.
Because the 22-year-old Scottish international is a man in demand right now. McGinn won the Scottish Championship Player of the Year award in 2016/17 as Hibs cruised back to the top flight and has taken to the Premiership like a duck to water.
He has five goals and four assists in 26 league games, with Neil Lennon’s side fourth in the table.
And, as a result the Daily Record reports that long-standing admirer David Moyes is keen to lure McGinn to West Ham. It is understood that Moyes wanted to sign him during his time at Sunderland and sent Hammers assistant Billy McKinlay to watch McGinn over the weekend as he put in another excellent performance in a 2-0 win against Aberdeen.
But links with Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic will not go away.
The Express reported last year that Celtic even saw him as a potential successor to Scott Brown, who moved from Easter Road to Parkhead a decade ago and has won seven Scottish Premiership titles in green and white.
And it appears that McGinn’s excellent form this season means he is still on Celtic’s radar. The Chronicle reports that the champions-elect have been impressed by the midfielder, suggesting that they could make a move to challenge West Ham in the summer.
Hibs boss Neil Lennon has frequently stated that McGinn is worth around £5 million but, with his contract running down, it remains to be seen how much he will actually cost.
