Islam Slimani has been linked with Premier League clubs for a number of months and latest reports suggest he is about to sign for Leicester.
Sporting Lisbon have signed striker Luc Castaignos from Eintracht Frankfurt, seemingly freeing up Islam Slimani to complete a club-record move to Leicester City.
On Sunday, The Guardian reported that the Portuguese runners-up were holding out for £34 million for their star striker after the Premier League champions saw a £25 million bid rejected earlier in the window.
However, the Algerian international now appears set to move to the King Power after Sporting seemingly secured his replacement, £12.5 million striker Castaignos.
The 23-year-old, who scored just five goals in the Bundesliga last season, joins countryman and former Wolfsburg poacher Bas Dost (below, centre) in Portugal, with Jorge Jesus’ side striving to counter the loss of their 27-goal talisman.
Slimani, something of a classic ‘number nine’, would provide Claudio Ranieri with extra height and physicality up top to compliment the pace and direct running of Jamie Vardy and Ahmed Musa.
However, his £34 million asking price means Leicester would have broken their transfer record for the second time this summer and hopes will be high that Slimani can fire the Foxes to another surprise tilt at the title.
